What a wound torsion spring actually is
The spring above your door isn’t a big version of a ballpoint pen spring. It’s a torsion bar wound to roughly 7,500 pounds-inches of stored torque on a standard two-car door - wound up specifically so it can lift 200 pounds of steel a couple thousand times a year.
